Sutra Foundation (A bastion of traditional and contemporary arts)
Entry Description
Sutra Foundation, a bastion of traditional and contemporary arts bequeathed to Malaysia by one of its sons, Datuk Ramli Ibrahim was established as a full-fledged and tax exempt Foundation in 2007 in order to secure its legacy for the future generations. It carries into the future the thread of Ramli’s vision and contribution to the Malaysian arts scene and strives to develop the breadth and depth of Malaysian performing and visual arts by stimulating the creative spirit of cross-cultural Malaysia.Over the years, Sutra has developed an efficient methodology of training the dancer and preparing the body through an eclectic, specially designed ‘physical conditioning’ which effectively inculcates the correct posture, anga-sudha (the perfection of form and lines) and expressivity.
Sutra Gallery & KamaRia Gallery offer unique alternative venues for visual arts in Malaysia and both are associated with Sutra Foundation. Over three decades, Sutra has spearheaded painting, drawing and photographic exhibitions alongside its dance productions, and thereby projected an integrated view of the performing and visual arts.
