Built in the 14th century on the site of a former wooden fortress, Făgăraș Citadel stands as one of Europe's largest and best-preserved medieval fortifications. Surrounded by a deep moat and featuring impressive defensive walls, this Gothic-Renaissance fortress served as both a strategic military stronghold and a luxurious noble residence. The citadel boasts unique architectural elements including a double wall system, corner bastions, and a drawbridge. Now housing the Făgăraș County Museum, its 65 rooms showcase historical artifacts, medieval weapons, and traditional crafts. The fortress's dramatic architecture and rich history make it one of Transylvania's most remarkable medieval monuments.
