Building 14 Digital Twin: An Educational BIM Workflow for Architectural Documentation

Entry Description

This Digital Twin represents Building 14 of the School of Architecture, Art and Design at Tecnológico de Monterrey. The scan was developed as part of an academic initiative to create a precise and functional digital twin that serves as the foundational reference for architectural documentation and BIM-based workflows.

The project was carried out collaboratively with architecture students and faculty during the BIM Concentration program. Using Matterport technology, the digital twin enabled accurate spatial understanding, dimensional verification, and direct extraction of information required for the generation of architectural drawings and BIM models.

Beyond documentation, this digital twin functions as an educational tool that bridges real-world architecture with digital methodologies. It supports hands-on learning in BIM processes, spatial analysis, and architectural representation, allowing students to work with a real building as a living case study.

This project demonstrates how digital twins can enhance architectural education by integrating emerging technologies into academic practice, fostering technical rigor, collaboration, and industry-relevant skills within a learning environment.
